they're here...

Cool Cayden
enjoying the saturday weather

and by "they" i so mean the tantrums. as my mom eloquently put it yesterday afternoon, the "trying twos" have officially arrived. i think "trying" works so much better than "terrible." cause really, cayden doesn't know any different. he's just figuring things out and pushing buttons and finding boundaries. so it's not fair of us to call it terrible...

... but i will admit to wishing for his bedtime for the first time ever on saturday evening. combine the tantrums with two year molars trying to cut through and maybe a whole 20 minute nap... and well, we had a walking time bomb on our hands. cayden even put himself in time-out on saturday once. yeah. it's a new area for all of us to work on, but we're getting there. i quickly discovered that getting down on his level and talking to him helped so much more than standing above him. so yay for that realization...

and yesterday afternoon was so much better (after an almost three hour nap!). we now know when a tantrum is coming. he seems to follow the same pattern. and if it weren't frustrating, the tantrum would actually almost be amusing – jumping, crying and arms a-flying.

jeremy asked if this was as bad as it was going to get. i like to think optimistically, but i think we're in for some bigger shows in the very near future. wish us luck? or share a little advice?

21 months

OakMt

dearest cayden,
this past sunday, you turned 21 months old. know what? that's only three months away from your second birthday. (which means only four months until your baby brother gets here – eek!)

it sounds so cliche to say, but your personality has literally exploded over the last couple of weeks. you tell me and daddy all about everything. gesturing with your hands and head. and so many "words" are coming out of your mouth. when they finally all make sense, i'm pretty sure we're going to be in trouble. you are most definitely like your daddy when it comes to having conversations.

speaking of words, we can say something once and you'll repeat it. which is so awesome. and so scary cause sometimes? words come out of mama and daddy's mouth that you probably don't need to repeat. so we're all working on that. the cutest lately though? okie dokie (okie dopie), baby brother (baby brover) and aw man!

you no longer really walk anywhere. you MUST run. or even better? jump. i mean, why walk when you can do one of those two? yeah, it's beyond me too. just this week you've started attempting the stairs like a big boy. since most of our living area is downstairs, we don't go up and down stairs too often, but dude, you're totally getting the hang of it.

we're currently in the process of (very) slowly converting your room to a big boy room. once it's all done, we're pretty sure you're going to love it. we can't decide between a full bed for you (which we already have) or going ahead and just getting you bunk beds. (yes, one day you and your baby brover WILL be sharing a bedroom.)

oh, and mama's favorite new thing you do? you'll grab one of us by the hand and lead us somewhere. like just the other day, i was still sitting on the couch in the rec room and you said, "mommy!" and ran back to me, grabbed my hand and then walked me to the stairs. such a little gentleman already!

cayden, you seriously light up our lives. if either of us has had a bad day, all you need to do is give us one of your goofy faces and that all melts away. we love you more and more every day. and can't wait to see what you show us tomorrow.

i could eat you to pieces, i love you so...

{new product} patterned silhouettes

ok, so it's not exactly a brand new product, more of a re-introducing of a product that i somehow forgot that i used to offer. so, ta-da, re-introducing patterned silhouettes!

Circles & Stripes

there are four different pattern choices: circles, stripes, squares & dots. any of the backgrounds can be created with the color choices in the product listing. your silhouette will be either solid white or solid black – it's your choice!

because his hair...

SuperExcited&Relaxed

... really does grow faster than weeds, cayden has now had his third haircut. and we took it super short like his daddy's this time. i have to say, when i first saw it, i wasn't sure what to think. but as the week's gone on, it's really grown (haha!) on me. and because he was just looking so adorably cute this morning, you get these crappy iphone photos. but i mean really, from the disheveled hair to the radiohead tee to the (fake) vans... i mean, cute, right?

and because jeremy and i are bad parents, we've totally convinced ourselves that cayden's already taken all the "cute" genes. we're afraid sawyer just can't possibly be this cute too. i mean, that's like some serious blessings. please tell me we're not the only parents that are (mostly jokingly) afraid their second child isn't going to be as cute. please?

if your bets...

... were on a girl, she might look awfully silly wearing these boyish clothes. (p.s. it's a boy!)

because sometimes...

... when you go to bed with wet hair, it makes for the most awesome bed-head ever. mama may have even gotten after it with her hair straightener a little bit later and it still wouldn't lay flat. that's when you know you have some awesome bed-head.

bed head

and awesome bed-head? makes for even more awesome shadows. for real.

rocking dragon?

rocking dragon? schmocking dragon! (yeah, i know. it doesn't make sense.) who needs to ONLY rock on their dragon when one can also walk their dragon? seriously. the head swing from side-to-side kills me. especially on the second walk forward. oh, and note his daredevil ways when he decides to stand on the seat. this guy? he's getting braver and braver every day. which makes this mama more and more nervous every day. but it keeps each moment exciting and brand new. if only i could make my heart rate slow down just a bit...
