enjoying the saturday weather
and by "they" i so mean the tantrums. as my mom eloquently put it yesterday afternoon, the "trying twos" have officially arrived. i think "trying" works so much better than "terrible." cause really, cayden doesn't know any different. he's just figuring things out and pushing buttons and finding boundaries. so it's not fair of us to call it terrible...
... but i will admit to wishing for his bedtime for the first time ever on saturday evening. combine the tantrums with two year molars trying to cut through and maybe a whole 20 minute nap... and well, we had a walking time bomb on our hands. cayden even put himself in time-out on saturday once. yeah. it's a new area for all of us to work on, but we're getting there. i quickly discovered that getting down on his level and talking to him helped so much more than standing above him. so yay for that realization...
and yesterday afternoon was so much better (after an almost three hour nap!). we now know when a tantrum is coming. he seems to follow the same pattern. and if it weren't frustrating, the tantrum would actually almost be amusing – jumping, crying and arms a-flying.
jeremy asked if this was as bad as it was going to get. i like to think optimistically, but i think we're in for some bigger shows in the very near future. wish us luck? or share a little advice?
