rice krispie goodness

i totally blame our neighbors for this one. when we got home from the hospital, our neighbors brought over some treats. those treats included rice krispie treats. seriously - the best rice krispie treats i've ever had.

then jeremy dog-sat for them (well, he went and let the dogs out to go potty - no biggie). and more rice krispie treats were brought over for that. still, the best treats i've had.

and then i realized that i've never actually made any. so i'm now on to my second batch. they still don't match the neighbors, but they're good and extra gooey. and we're slightly obsessed with them at our house at the moment. hopefully we'll get burned out on them soon as i don't think my waistline is profiting from them... but, in the meantime, we'll just enjoy them while we can.

having a conversation

ok, not a real conversation, but jeremy captured cayden talking a bit this afternoon. the video's a little long (a little over a minute), but there are several sounds that are worth it - promise! and no, he's not wearing a bubble suit (i swear my child will never wear one of those!). the legs of it are just pushed up under him. hope you enjoy!

one month old...

and what a cutie he is! we couldn't be more proud of him if we tried.

where's cayden?

a small project

jeremy and i have always wanted to change up the kitchen in this home just a little bit. we have white cabinets, and we've always loved the look of kitchens with white cabinets that have black countertops and whatnot. so while we can't afford granite (and really, granite wouldn't be a wise choice for this neighborhood), we've been thinking about other options to help us get the look we want for a price we can afford.

eventually, we'll replace these countertops with a black laminate (and good grief, even that's expensive!). but for the moment, we're doing one thing at a time... for now, we've remo
ved the nickel-plated hardware and spray painted them black. that's our first step. the next thing we'd like to do is replace the pendant light hanging above our table with a pendant drum shade. we want a black shade, but i haven't had any luck in locating one - any one have any suggestions on where to look, or has anyone seen one somewhere? (we've looked at pottery barn, west elm, crate & barrel, ikea, etc. and all we can find are white ones... which would work, it's just not quite the look we're going for.)

below you'll see a before photo - hopefully we'll be able to do a good after photo eventually (it will not only include new countertops and light fixtures, but also a beautiful dark hardwood floor... one day... oh, and the color of our kitchen has changed since the before photo. it's now a light blue color. think powder blue). there's also a few photos of the quick hardware fix...

not a swimmer yet

we took cayden to his first pool party on sunday. the water was still a bit chilly (it is still pretty early in the summer for it to be warm), but we still had to dip his feet in just to see how he would react. yeah, he cried. of course. but i wanted to cry a little bit too - the water was that cold to me. so cayden and i sat in the shade with another mommy and her cute little one while jeremy swam for a little bit...

an evening of firsts

last night, cayden and my nephew, ethan, went to their first concert! sure, it was in alabaster at a free show and it was only tonic playing, but it was fun. it was outdoors, and there were tons of people there. we ran into rich (a guy i work with) - only after jeremy stalked his brother...

anyway, things are still going well. today we're taking cayden over to kristie's to go for his first swim. i'm hoping he loves the water, but understand if he hates it now, he could hopefully still love it down the road. (and, to be honest, this new momma isn't exactly thrilled with the thought of putting on a swimsuit. but i love pools and sunshine too much to put up much of a fight!)

as always, a few photos from last night...

two weeks old

really? two weeks old already? geez, this parenting thing does go by fast...

anyway, you may (or most likely may not) notice that i've shortened the name of this blog. it used to be "just one more trip to the bathroom" because, well, i was doing a lot of that. now that my trips have slowed in that area, i thought it'd be a good idea to shorten the title just a bit and now it really fits. "just one more trip" ... to the changing table ... to pick up the little one ... to target to get things that we forget on prior trips ... to home depot (cause honestly, we all need some projects around the house every now and then!) i'm sure you get the point, and "just one more trip" fits our lifestyle perfectly these days.

so the last couple of weeks have gone really well. no complaints really. i had a few complications from the epidural and ended up having to get a blood patch the friday that we left the hospital. it wasn't a ton of fun, but it ended up getting rid of this awful headache that the epidural had left behind. honestly? recovery from the delivery has been the most painful part – and i use painful lightly... mostly because it didn't hurt, but taking the time to recover when i'm used to just doing things has been a chore for me. today? i feel great. just a few tight muscles in my shoulder area, but i'm pretty sure that's just from me being incredibly out of shape and now holding an infant (weighing in at 8.6 pounds this morning at the doctor!) for a large portion of my day.

cayden couldn't be a better baby. he only cries when he really needs something... no crying just to cry for us. whew! he sleeps pretty great at night too. usually gives us four hour increments, so we're getting plenty of sleep – it's just broken up a bit now (which isn't easy per se, but we're getting used to it).

jeremy went back to work on monday, so it's just me and the little one at home now. and that's going good too. i was worried that i might get bored during the day... but there's still so many things to do that boredom hasn't been a problem yet (talk to me again in six weeks!).

alright, so here are some photos of cayden over the last couple weeks. i'm sure that's what you're all here for anyway :)
